Maintenance
Maintenance
Inspect your canopy regularly for rust, cracks, or loose parts. Catching damage early prevents costly repairs. Remove debris like leaves, bird droppings, and dirt that can trap moisture or stain surfaces. Trim nearby plants to prevent overgrowth and hidden damage.
To clean, rinse with water to remove loose dirt. Clear the roof and gutters. Mix warm water with mild detergent and scrub with a soft brush or sponge. Avoid harsh cleaners that can strip paint or coating. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.
Routine checks and cleaning will extend your carport’s life and keep it protective and functional.

Council Approval
Council Approval
When buying a custom aluminum carport, patio cover, or DIY awning kit online, you need to know if your project requires local council approval or a building permit.
While our structures are engineered for easy DIY installation, local building codes vary depending on your location, structure size, and roof type (Polycarbonate Panels vs. Solar Panels).
1. What Local Councils Look For
When reviewing outdoor structures, local authorities generally check four main factors:
- Size & Height Limits: Many regions allow small structures (under $10\text{m}^2$–$20\text{m}^2$) to be built without a permit under "Exempt" or "Permitted" development rules.
- Boundary Setbacks: Councils check how close your structure is to your neighbor's property line or public easements. Front-yard structures almost always require approval.
- Wind & Snow Loads: Your structure must withstand local weather extremes. Ready Canopy uses high-strength architectural aluminum alloy certified for heavy wind and snow loads.
- Solar Grid Integration: If you upgrade to a Solar Carport or Solar Patio Cover, the electrical connection to the grid and the roof weight must be cleared by your local utility and building department.
2. Quick Guide by Region
- Australia: Backyard patio covers under 20㎡ are often exempt from a Development Application (DA), but front-yard carports always require approval. All structures must meet AS/NZS 1170 structural standards.
- United Kingdom: Most backyard structures are allowed under Permitted Development (PD) Rights, provided they do not cover more than 50% of your garden and stay under 2.5m high near boundaries.
- United States: Rules are set by local Building Departments and HOAs. Small structures under 120–200 sq. ft. may not need a permit, but strict boundary setback rules still apply.
- Canada: Focuses heavily on winter safety. Independent structures under 10–15㎡ usually do not require a permit, but they must meet strict Snow Load Capacity rules.
3. Free Engineering & Design Support to Secure Your Permit
Getting a permit doesn't have to be stressful. To eliminate the guesswork and help you get approved quickly, Ready Canopy offers full professional design support at no extra cost.
🛠️ Free 3D & CAD Design Service: When you order your custom kit online, our engineering team will provide Free 3D realistic renderings and official CAD structural drawings customized to your exact dimensions. You can submit these professional blueprints directly to your local Council, HOA, or Building Department for a fast and smooth approval process.
4. How the Process Works
- Check Local Limits: Look up your local council's website to check the maximum "no-permit" dimensions for your property.
- Get Your Free Drawings: Contact us online with your dimensions. We will generate your custom 3D renderings and CAD structural blueprints.
- Submit Your Application: Hand in our engineering documents and your site layout to your local council or certifier.

We absolutely love these panels. They are well constructed, easy to put up and are very sturdy. Packing was great and they arrived in perfect condition. We definitely recommend them and would buy again.
I ordered three panels. They came well wrapped. Easy to install. Mounted them in concrete. We live in a windy area so they are near an existing fence and very well mounted into the ground on stakes. Great privacy. Beautiful to look at.
The craftsmanship is outstanding! We ordered 6 panels, and they fit together beautifully. We requested bare metal, and they are quite striking. Can't wait to see what they look like once they have aged. Would buy again.
They look great. I ordered seven and they really make the back yard look great and give privacy. It's an art piece.
In two separate transactions we purchased all 5 panels of Birds On Branches and have just finished installing them on our new backyard fence. We cannot say enough about the craftsmanship, quality, design, value received, etc. that we feel these panels represent. We highly recommend Phil Dunphy and the Metal Art Fever Team and their line of products.
Philip's work is the best, bar none!!!!
Purchasing these panels has been an effortless experience. I had a question during the order process, and received the answer promptly. The panels are great. They are substantial, and look fantastic. You can see the pride in craftsmanship straight away. I ordered the panels with the rust coating option, and spy painted them lightly with a polyurethane clear spray as suggested by another reviewer. The provided stakes were more than sufficient for ground mounting. I placed along them along a public pathway adjacent to my home, and they not only provide the much needed privacy, they also look real nice. Two days after I got them placed, we had a storm front with 40-55 mph wind gust, and heavy rain. The panels were unaffected. I highly recommend Metalartfever and their products.
It will be fun watching it rust.
Incredible work of art! Arrived super quickly, can’t want to mount it! Thank you again! 😊
First time I have ordered something like this and I am pleased.
Love the panels. They were well wrapped for shipping.
Love them so much, look amazing
Beautiful panels. The stakes were missing on the order, but the seller sent them promptly. Would not hesitate to order more, and I probably will.
In stock, but took a little longer than some orders. Any request for information was answered promptly I would order again.
very quick and responsive seller
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my bird panel! It’s beautiful and the seller is a great communicator!
These guys know what they are doing! I want more pieces!
It is a cool design
These look as good in person as they do in the pictures. Bought the five panels and they are perfect to create a beautiful privacy barrier in our backyard. Can’t wait to get them up!
BEAUTIFUL and delivered ahead of schedule!
I am so pleased with these panels! The seller was so easy to work with. Initially, I ordered seven panels, but the project needed to be expanded, and the seller designed three more panels to extend the pattern to 10 panels. The 10 panels flow so nicely altogether.
The (3) panels arrived in great shape. They were very well made and look fabulous. After putting them up in the back yard and living with them a couple of weeks, I decided they looked lonely so I ordered the other two panels of the set. Can't wait for them to arrive so I can complete the fence! Will post a picture after the project is complete.
Excellent craftsmanship and fits perfectly in the area to help hide our propane tank.
Beautiful pieces - great service - well crafted.
Beautiful heavy metal screens we will be using on our deck for privacy. We needed them customized which was done very nicely. Lovely people to work with!
Beautiful! Love these screens! This is my 3rd rust set I have ordered and placed in my yard! Fast shipping! They are durable and add so much to a landscape. Thank you!
The panels looked as described.
