However, regular maintenance is essential to prevent dirt buildup, preserve surface finishes, and guarantee smooth mechanical operation. Follow this comprehensive guide to keep your canopy looking and performing like new.

1. Polycarbonate Sheet Products Maintenance

Applicable to: Polycarbonate Aluminum Carports, Window Awnings, Patio Covers, Retractable Sunrooms, and Retractable Carports.

Polycarbonate is incredibly impact-resistant and treated with high-performance anti-UV co-extrusion layers. However, its surface is softer than glass and requires careful handling to prevent scratching or degradation of the UV-protective barrier.

Cleaning Procedure:

1. Rinse First: Gently flush the polycarbonate panels with clean, lukewarm water to wash away loose dust, grit, and surface debris.

2. Mild Soap Solution: Mix a mild household dishwashing liquid or a neutral detergent with lukewarm water. Never use abrasive or highly alkaline cleaners.

3. Gentle Wipe-Down: Use a clean, ultra-soft microfiber cloth or a non-abrasive soft sponge to gently wipe the panels. Clean in a linear, top-to-bottom motion. Do not scrub vigorously or use circular motions, as trapped particles can scratch the surface.

4. Final Rinse & Dry: Thoroughly rinse with clean water to remove all soap residues. To prevent water spots, dry the surface immediately with a soft chamois or clean microfiber cloth.

⚠️ CRITICAL DON'TS FOR POLYCARBONATE:

• NEVER use squeegees, razor blades, brushes, or sharp scrapers on the panels.

• NEVER use harsh solvents like benzene, gasoline, acetone, thinners, or any cleaning agents containing ammonia or alcohol. These chemicals cause micro-cracking (crazing) and permanently cloud the panels.

• AVOID cleaning in direct, hot sunlight or during extreme temperatures, as the soap can dry prematurely and cause staining.

2. Solid Aluminum Board Products Maintenance

Applicable to: Full Aluminum Plate Awnings, Premium Solid Aluminum Patio Covers, and Heavy-Duty Modern Pavilions.

Solid aluminum boards feature high-temperature powder coatings or PVDF finishes that provide exceptional resistance to corrosion, chalking, and fading. Maintaining these surfaces protects against atmospheric pollution, salt spray, and acid rain.

Care Guidelines:

• Routine Cleaning: Clean the aluminum panels at least twice a year (or quarterly in coastal/industrial environments). Wash with water and a soft cloth using a pH-neutral detergent (pH 5–8).

• Removing Stubborn Stains: For grease, oil, or soot deposits, use a soft cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol (IPA), then immediately rinse thoroughly with clean water.

• Clear the Drainage Channels: Aluminum roofing profiles feature integrated gutters. Ensure that leaves, twigs, and organic debris are cleared out regularly to prevent water backing up and overflowing under the panels.

3. Structural Aluminum Alloy Frames

The structural skeleton of all Ready Canopy products is constructed from architectural-grade 6063-T5 aluminum alloy with a premium powder-coated finish.

• Hardware Inspections: Check all connecting bolts, expansion anchors, and structural screws every six months. Tighten any fasteners that may have vibrated loose over time due to high wind loads.

• Sealant & Gasket Check: Inspect the EPDM rubber gaskets and structural silicone joints between the frame and the roofing panels. Replace any damaged or weathered sealants to maintain absolute waterproof integrity.

4. Retractable & Mechanical Systems Care

Applicable to: Retractable Sunrooms, Retractable Carports, and Motorized Louvred Canopies.

Moving structures rely on precision track designs and mechanical components. Smooth operation requires specialized care to prevent friction and engine wear.

Maintenance Schedule:

• Track Clearance: Keep the ground rails and overhead guide tracks completely free of dirt, pebbles, leaves, and ice. Vacuum or sweep the tracks regularly. Debris in the track puts extra load on the motor and can misalign the system.

• Wheel & Roller Lubrication: Lubricate the moving wheels, bearings, and drive mechanisms annually. Use a dry silicone spray lubricant. Avoid heavy greases or oils, as they attract dirt and sand, forming an abrasive paste.

• Motor & Electrical Care: Ensure motorized systems are kept clear of standing water. If the structure has not been operated for an extended period, run a full open-and-close cycle at least once a month to keep the internal gears lubricated.

5. Solar-Integrated Product Surface Care

Applicable to: Solar Carports, Solar Patio Covers, and Eco-Canopies.

Solar-integrated canopies require clean photovoltaic (PV) surfaces to maintain optimal energy conversion efficiency. Soil, dust, bird droppings, and industrial fallout block sunlight and significantly lower power yields.

Cleaning & Safety Protocol:

• Timing is Everything: Clean solar surfaces early in the morning or late in the evening, or on cloudy days. Never pour cold water onto hot solar panels, as the extreme thermal shock can instantly fracture the tempered glass safety layer.

• Pure Water Cleaning: Clean water without minerals is ideal. Avoid hard water, which leaves calcium deposits that degrade efficiency over time. If needed, a mild, non-abrasive soap solution can be applied with a soft telescopic squeegee brush.

• Inspect Wiring & Junction Boxes: Visually inspect the underside wiring, conduits, and junction boxes once a year. Look for any loose connections, cable sagging, or signs of wildlife interference.
