Maintenance
Maintenance
Inspect your canopy regularly for rust, cracks, or loose parts. Catching damage early prevents costly repairs. Remove debris like leaves, bird droppings, and dirt that can trap moisture or stain surfaces. Trim nearby plants to prevent overgrowth and hidden damage.
To clean, rinse with water to remove loose dirt. Clear the roof and gutters. Mix warm water with mild detergent and scrub with a soft brush or sponge. Avoid harsh cleaners that can strip paint or coating. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.
Routine checks and cleaning will extend your carport’s life and keep it protective and functional.

Council Approval
Council Approval
When buying a custom aluminum carport, patio cover, or DIY awning kit online, you need to know if your project requires local council approval or a building permit.
While our structures are engineered for easy DIY installation, local building codes vary depending on your location, structure size, and roof type (Polycarbonate Panels vs. Solar Panels).
1. What Local Councils Look For
When reviewing outdoor structures, local authorities generally check four main factors:
- Size & Height Limits: Many regions allow small structures (under $10\text{m}^2$–$20\text{m}^2$) to be built without a permit under "Exempt" or "Permitted" development rules.
- Boundary Setbacks: Councils check how close your structure is to your neighbor's property line or public easements. Front-yard structures almost always require approval.
- Wind & Snow Loads: Your structure must withstand local weather extremes. Ready Canopy uses high-strength architectural aluminum alloy certified for heavy wind and snow loads.
- Solar Grid Integration: If you upgrade to a Solar Carport or Solar Patio Cover, the electrical connection to the grid and the roof weight must be cleared by your local utility and building department.
2. Quick Guide by Region
- Australia: Backyard patio covers under 20㎡ are often exempt from a Development Application (DA), but front-yard carports always require approval. All structures must meet AS/NZS 1170 structural standards.
- United Kingdom: Most backyard structures are allowed under Permitted Development (PD) Rights, provided they do not cover more than 50% of your garden and stay under 2.5m high near boundaries.
- United States: Rules are set by local Building Departments and HOAs. Small structures under 120–200 sq. ft. may not need a permit, but strict boundary setback rules still apply.
- Canada: Focuses heavily on winter safety. Independent structures under 10–15㎡ usually do not require a permit, but they must meet strict Snow Load Capacity rules.
3. Free Engineering & Design Support to Secure Your Permit
Getting a permit doesn't have to be stressful. To eliminate the guesswork and help you get approved quickly, Ready Canopy offers full professional design support at no extra cost.
🛠️ Free 3D & CAD Design Service: When you order your custom kit online, our engineering team will provide Free 3D realistic renderings and official CAD structural drawings customized to your exact dimensions. You can submit these professional blueprints directly to your local Council, HOA, or Building Department for a fast and smooth approval process.
4. How the Process Works
- Check Local Limits: Look up your local council's website to check the maximum "no-permit" dimensions for your property.
- Get Your Free Drawings: Contact us online with your dimensions. We will generate your custom 3D renderings and CAD structural blueprints.
- Submit Your Application: Hand in our engineering documents and your site layout to your local council or certifier.
- Receive Delivery & Build (DIY): Once approved, we manufacture and ship your complete, prefabricated DIY kit straight to your doorstep.

Very beautiful well-made decorative fence. I wish I had room for the two side pieces. Packaged very well and arrived as promised.
did you ever order something and you opened it up and there was that one moment you paused and wondered… Why didn't I get this sooner. It is so fantastic! I would highly recommend this item shipped quickly. Shipped packed well. Beautiful and true to description. I've had more company since I hung it up because my neighbors just can't stop looking at it lol
Absolutely beautiful product, I used it in a spot where I took down a rotting pergola that had been providing some screen between my yard and my neighbors. This was a perfect solution, some separation and a bit of privacy without a big obtrusive, expensive fence. The art is there for both me and my neighbor to enjoy and it was easy to install. Friends are envious
Spectacular! Arrived in great shape, cardboard on both ends helped. Nice big size, looks perfect in spot ...
It looks beautiful! It arrived in a timely manner, well-protected. I couldn’t figure out where the stakes go for placing it in the ground, so I’m just leaning it against the side of the house. I love it!!!
Just as described, easy to install, looks amazing in our yard. We bought two: one to hide power pole lines, a second to hide our power box on the side of the house. Excellent product.
These panels look awesome along a berm next to our mid-century modern house.
LOVE! We were looking for something between our studio and fence. There a little “alleyway” we store an ikea table for parties etc. this is SO perfect!
We’ve ordered and received three panels and they are amazing and exactly what we envisioned. The panels provide artistic flavor and serve as beautiful privacy screens . Highly recommended
Our home has a two story apt bldg behind it and air drying laundry has really ramped up and provided quite the contrast to our landscaped garden. We are trying to grow bamboo in containers to help with privacy, but it will be a cpl years before we get to a full nature screen. These panels are perfect to add almost two feet above the fence line and they go with our Asian garden theme. I would recommend them for adding decor alone and the feeling of being in an outdoor room, but the added privacy is priceless. Only negative was not every corner had cardboard when shipped and the FedEx driver dragged them across the street, on the sidewalk and up a newly paved driveway. Luckily damage that can be buffed out of the driveway, but the cardboard would have protected the screens and the ground.
I was looking for a simple screen for my back wall to hide those ugly water and electrical meters. The bamboo metal screen I ordered fits perfectly. Love the weathered rust Finish. Sturdy, high quality and looks beautiful.
Amazingly beautiful. I ordered a set of these for my new garden patio...and then ordered more. I highly recommend, especially the rusted ones. Beautiful work.
Looks amazing. The willingness to customize was terrific.
These panels are beyond gorgeous! They were easy to order and arrived right around a week after order. The colors are vibrant, easy to install, adds a block plus artwork!
Great screens, arrives quickly in state. Had one set for 4 years and so happy I ordered more.
Everything I expected and more.
Love this item it’s very nice every one ask me where I bought it and I told them the website.
I saw these panels and had a vision for a wind screen that would also be an amazing artistic addition to our landscaping. I ordered 3 bamboo panels and am so impressed by the solid construction. I had concerns before receiving them about how solid they would be and if they would stand up to our Southern Oregon weather and winds. Once they arrived, packaged well and protected, I was relieved and once we finished the first phase of the project we decided to add one more panel which was shipped right away upon request, so we could finish up the project. I highly recommend metalarfever and would not hesitate to buy from them again.
We enjoy the look and size of the privacy screen with the bamboo design and rusted appearance. Fast shipment. Thank you!
This is one of several purchases I’ve made with this vendor - I am very happy with my purchases and can hardly wait to get them in place in my “metal“ garden - very artistic product - did have some issues with minor damage caused by UPS but owner stepped in which led to quick resolution - once again, these pieces will put just the right finish to my whimsical garden space!
High quality with timely delivery. Perfect yard screen -
Beautiful work of art. There were a couple of sides that were not rusted yet, but it will with time. Helps provide privacy where needed.
The bamboo panel set is superb. It looks great whether all panels are in a row or offset from one another. Using it to block the view of my neighbor’s hot tub, and she’s as pleased as I am. Highly recommended!
The five stars given for customer service is well deserved . There was a little hiccup in shipping all due to the carrier , no fault of the seller , that was quickly resolved . Except for this , everything was smooth and timely . Packaging was secure and the product lived up to expectations as advertised .
Nice quality shipped promptly , bought three sets
I’m very happy with the quality of the rust bamboo screen. It is exactly has shown and all of my expectations were met.
Highly recommend this piece, nice detail and the owner Philip was a pleasure to work with.
